Reflection on the Construction,placement,photos
As far as the actual word construction, my group
members and I felt that we should used the con-
densed Futura font because we felt that the font
added to the meaning on the word with the letters
being compressed together. We agreed to used the
color black because we wanted to use the negative
connotation. I thought that we should place the let-
ters in a shaded area to represent that the word is
withdrawing into the shade away from the public
view. We wanted the letters on the steps receding
from the sunlight to the tunnel next to the Art and
Design building. The photos we took from an angle
looking down shows how the letters goes down the
steps into the dark tunnel, making the letters look
like they are retreating into the darkness.
Team Dynamic
I think my group members and I made a great team.
We all put in the time and effort into finishing this
project. We met on the weekends to make sure we all
were on the same page on how we wanted to take on
this project. The problems I had for me personally were
with the cutting and carving out the letters with the
utility knife. But I out advice from Kylie, Kevin and Te-
anna; they gave me some tips on how to cut with using
cardboard material. Other problems were that some of
our group members were under the weather and had
to miss class. But quickly we made sure to get every-
body get caught up with what we needed to accomplish.
Another problem has a group there was an issue with
measurements on the construction on our word. And it
was frustrating at first because we wanted everything
to be perfect. However we got through it and made the
adjustments that were needed. Overall we had great
communication and we got along really well. I’m glad
that I got the chance to get to know Kevin, Kylie and
Teanna.

Withdraw Definition

From this project, I got a chance to expand my creativity with doing the individual part of this project. It was kind
of difficult trying to present the meaning on the world in a six by six piece of paper with only using the word itself and the color black and white. I had to think about the spacing and the placement of the word carefully to try to capture the meaning of my word. Personally, I actually enjoyed this part of the project because I felt that I allowed myself to step out of the box. What I learned from the project is that it’s important to expand your mindset and not get stuck on a certain concept. The difficulties of this project were cutting the matboard as a frame for my final five compositions. But with a lot of practice I got the hang of it and felt more confi- dent with my cutting skills. For the group part, the measure- ments of some of the constructions of the letters were a lit- tle off but we worked through our frustration. Overall, the difficulties and challenges and that my group members and I faced we all overcame them.

Reflection on the Photo Essay
From this reading,, I learned that exploration is important when tak-
ing photographs. It is always great to explore your surroundings and
notice the visual beauty in the little things that’s in our everyday life.
For this project we had travel across KU’s campus to pick a location
that best represents my groups’ word withdraw. And from this proj-
ect and this reading I realized that movement is important. Taking
different photos in varies positions allow my group members and I
to see which angle best portrayed the meaning of our word. And also from the reading we realized how significant photo documenting is. When I began to make my photo essay book, I realized how the pho- tos told a story of the process of this project. It makes the audience have an experience while looking at the photographs.

Reflection on the Part of the Letter
From this reading, I learned the new vocabulary
pertaining to the alphabet. I never really thought
about how the way a letter is curved or shape,
can help better communicate the “mood” or “at-
titude” of the letter. .When learning this new vo-
cabulary, I have a better understand of the com-
plexity and the beauty of the alphabet.
Description of the Project
There were two parts of this project. For the individual part each stu-
dent had to choose from a list of words. Then we used a six by six-flat
piece of paper using spacing, sizing, foreground/background, and
location of letters on the six by six border to express the meaning of
the word of the word we individually chose. We were only limited to
using the word itself in only black and white colors. We went through
a process of making twenty physical constructions of word. Then we
narrowed it down to the top ten and worked on the refinements in Il-
lustrator. Finally we narrowed it down again to the top five and made
improvements for the final five compositions. In the group part of this
project we random choose a word. We were instructed to construct the
word that we chose which to be at least two feet high with the materi-
als of our choice. Then we were told to travel around campus and fig-
ure out which site we should place the constructed letters that would
best represent the word.
