I really enjoyed this reading. I now have a new perspective
when it comes to comics. From the second chapter, I realized why humans have a
connection with cartoons. The simplicity of the cartoons allows us as the viewers
to become the cartoons with a few human facial features. Without defined
features of a human face for example it allows us to be taken into the
imaginary world. I know from experience from watching the Powerpuff Girls as a
girl. With the simply drawings of the characters, I sometimes imagine myself as
one of the Powerpuff girls. Even when I draw my own cartoons, I sometimes get
lost in the drawings and get taken into the imaginary world. From reading
chapter five, I also learned how drawings could display emotions. I thought
this quote was very accurate “ Art does not reproduce the visible: rather it
makes visible,” by Paul Klee. Drawing can display emotion in various ways. It
can be the from the ways the lines are showed on a comic that shows if a person
is sad, mad, happy or in loved. I know
from the drawings I that I do, whatever emotions I feeling at the moment, I try
to capture it in my drawings with a few lines. In conclusion these are the
things I realized and learned from this reading.

Writer's Tool Box Reflection
From this reading I learned that writing is a plays a very
big part in design. Writing is a huge component in the process of a visual project.
It makes designers explores different ideas and concepts to assist them in
their creativity. It also helps the designer narrow down the direction they
want the project to go with mind maps, concept maps, and word list. These types
of writing will help a designer develop his or her creativity. For me personally,
mind mapping helped my group decide what direction my group wanted to take in
regards to redesigning a packaging tape dispenser. I never thought writing played an important
role with design. I thought writing and design were two separate things that
didn’t connect. But, writing is a form of design. Writing has helped me develop my creativity
and permits me to thing more outside of the box. In conclusion, I encourage designers to use
writing in the designing process because it will aid you in advancing a
person’s creativeness.
IDEO Reflection
From the IDEO movie, I learned that when designing any
product it’s great to have different ideas. When designing with a group of
people, there are a lot of concepts. I think that no matter how outlandish or
crazy the idea maybe: it is always good to think outside of the box. When
designers share their ideas with other designers, they can be inspired by one
another and build off each other. This a way see understand an idea from
another person’s perspective, allows to expand a person’s horizon. Also what I
learned from watching this movie is that always great to work hands on with a
product because it allows the designers a chance to experiment and see what
works. A designer creates better ideas from actually producing a product with
their own hands than just thinking about an idea. Finally, another important
thing that I learned about design from watching this movie is that to make sure
to get feedback from numerous people especially the customers. There is always
something that can be improved. It’s best to have other people’s opinion
because it’s a way to make a product better and to see what the public likes
and dislikes. In conclusion, from this movie, I saw firsthand what it is like
to work with a group of designers from entirely different backgrounds and
observe how they were able to come together to make a good product.

Objectified
Objectified Reflection
From watching this movie, I have an entirely different view
on design now. I never really thought about how surrounds my everyday life.
Every object that that you used in your daily life such as; a toothbrush, a
cell phone, a mouse to a computer, was design thoroughly by someone. It makes
me think about the time and effort that was put into design an object. However
with being a designer, there is a detailed process with designing something.
First, a designer’s main goal in designing a product is making the useful and a
necessity in the world. It’s their job to make things in our everyday much
easier. Then, turning an idea into something visual that connects with the
consumers. I feel that if a designer can make customers evoke emotions and
experienced the object then that designer has done their job. When I think about my beautiful gold heart
shaped necklace that my grandma gave to me, the object has a sentimental value
to me but it is also beautifully crafted. Now, that I see the time and effort
that a designer goes through from making a product from scratch, I have a great
respect for all designers. Finally, from watching this film, I know that
designers are essential in this world because without them there wouldn’t be
any advancement in technology and the world wouldn’t improve. So, I’m happy
that we have dedicated designers that are willing to show their creative to
help bring our world into a brighter future.
