Concept Statement

Constructing a Vessel

Concept Statement

The purpose of this vessel is to protect and preserve my bracelets from my mother and boyfriend, which mean the world to me. Another purpose is that allows me to have a safe place where I can keep up with my bracelets so I won’t lose them. With my bracelets I wanted to create an organic shape with the structure. And finally wanted my vessel to compliment and capture beauty of my bracelets.

The Nature & Design of Aesthetics Reflection

From the reading, The Nature & Design of Aesthetics by David Pye, I learned that art is an extension of life. Art is essential to civilization. There can be nothing in life without art. A quote that really stood out to me was “If thoughout history people had resolutely rejected the arts until the crisis was over and the good life could begin ‘ then our arts, and with them our civilization (which could not have existed without the arts) would still be waiting to begin so”(106). After reading this quote it made me think about how without art the world wouldn’t have any knowledge of its past. Art keeps us connected with the generations that came before us. Pye also said,” The art of the past is each new generation’s birthright..”(106). Having art from the past plays a huge factor for the new generation. It is a source of inspiration that allows us to know where we come from and aspires us to create our own art that will influence the next generation.
